PhD Day – Tuesday 5th June – LIDC, London

Specifically for PhD students, this day aims to bring together a wide range of doctoral researchers from the IFSTAL consortium (City, RVC, SOAS, LSHTM, Warwick, Reading, Oxford) in a relaxed setting to discuss their work and explore themes and skills around interdisciplinary research.

Understanding the role of economics in animal welfare assessment and policy design. Workshop in Edinburgh, Friday 20th April. This one-day workshop aims to explore the use of key economic concepts in the supply and (measurement of) demand for animal welfare. The workshop will bring together invited welfare scientists, economists, industry and government stakeholders to develop a common picture of the latest developments in economic research of relevance to animal welfare. The 2018 City Food Policy Symposium – Connecting people with food policy. Wednesday 25th April 2018. The 2018 City Food Policy Symposium (City, University of London) will explore how gathering evidence of lived experiences of food challenges - how citizens and communities experience, explain and respond to them - can inform more effective, equitable and empowering policy solutions. Call for papers for EASA2018: Staying, Moving, Settling for the theme Moving On: Food Futures and Reimagining Uncertainty [Anthropology of Food]. The panel will address how food 'moves on' across time and space, borders and bodies. From everyday practices to overarching value systems, we consider foodways as human contemplations of the future: as sources of uncertainty, as cushions against it and as speculations in search of opportunities.   • Temporary Research Assistant, Rockefeller Foundation Economic Council on Planetary Health, Oxford Martin School (Part-time (between 15 and 30 hours per week), 12 weeks between April-July 2018), Reporting to the Executive Director, the Research Assistant will undertake commissioned literary reviews, assist in the preparation of policy option papers, provide detailed briefings for speaker engagements and identify articles of relevance.   • Barilla Centre for Food and Nutrition Research Grant Competition The 2018 BCFN YES! Research Grant Competition invites young PhD and postdoc researchers from any background and nationality to submit a research project to improve the sustainability of the food system. The award is a 20.000 € research grant applied to a one-year investigation. A maximum of three teams will be awarded the Research Grant.
