IFSTAL Launch and Term 1 events
IFSTAL 2017/18 launches on Thursday 19th October. We'll be livestreaming between the different IFSTAL institutions and hosting discussions and networking receptions locally. See the Events section of the Portal here for more details about attending the launch event at your local site, meet other IFSTAL participants, alumni and staff and get involved with IFSTAL.

Bayer sponsored place for IFSTAL at Oxford Farming Conference 2018. The three day conference is from Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th January. · The ANH Academy and the African Nutrition Society are hosting a new webinar series exploring critical links between agriculture, livelihoods, health and individual and household nutrition in Africa. · Oxford Pumpkin Festival, by Good Food Oxford, running from the 28th of October to 5th of November. An annual event that encourages people to eat instead of discarding Halloween pumpkins, the festival has spread widely across the UK. · Oxford Food Thinkers Lunches: The Oxford Food Thinkers Lunches provide and informal and relaxed atmosphere for people working on food within the University of Oxford. Each lunch has a theme and two speakers, although the events are focused on discussions around the theme. · The BCFN Foundation’s 8th International Forum on Food and Nutrition – 4th & 5th December 2017: The BCFN forum is an international platform aimed at identifying the pathways towards concrete solutions to the environmental, health, and socio-economic challenges affecting the food system. The 8th edition of the event focuses on food security, climate change, and migrations, sustainable food systems at the country and city level, and the reform of European agricultural policies. · Food, Farming & Countryside Launch Event – 1st Nov (6-7:15 pm): Against a backdrop of change and uncertainty, this Commission is intended to help secure the future of safe, sustainable UK food & farming systems and to protect national environmental assets, of vital economic, social and cultural importance, for now and future generations. This launch event will be an opportunity to hear from Commissioners, the team and key stakeholders. It will be followed by a drinks reception and opportunity for networking. · The Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Academy Food Environment Working Group (ANH-FEWG) has produced a short animation addressing what is meant by the term food environment; how can it be conceptualised, characterised and measured in different contexts, relating to its recently published technical brief, 'Concepts and methods for food environment research in low and middle income countries'. Calls for sessions/papers:
· Oxford Real Farming Conference 2018. The 2018 Oxford Real Farming Conference will be held in the Oxford Town Hall on 4th & 5th January. As always, this unique gathering of the UK's sustainable and organic food and farming movements will offer a practical mix of on-farm advice, showcasing new techniques for best practice in agroecological farming, as well as broader discussions on what needs to change to create real change in the food system. · The European Institute for Food History and Cultures (the IEHCA) is organising its Fourth International Convention on Food History and Food Studies, 7‐8 June 2018 – Tours (France). Two types of submission, with free choice of subject, will be accepted: Individual submissions and Submissions for “panel” sessions on a given theme. Closing date 15th November.
